The Itinerary

Let's meet at Mellow Mushroom of Jacksonville Beach for a casual sit-down dinner. There will be no advance reservation for this relaxed, casual dining event.

"Bachata on the Beach" After-Party: Weather permitting, the host will join Dance Salsa Jax's Anniversary "Bachata on the Beach" event at 8:30pm. Read more about the event here. Wear appropriate attire and bring a chair to enjoy the night sky between songs.

All are invited to attend, and the host can answer questions as he's been a member of the DSJ community for 2+ years!

Note: There will be no advance dinner reservation. The host will provide the number who are present at 6:30pm as the table size. Please keep your RSVPs current and arrive on time.

The Nickel Tour

Mellow Mushroom is one of the Southeast's most popular pizza chains, and a favorite place to eat and relax among Jacksonville locals. With convenient locations in Avondale, Southside, and Jacksonville Beach, this hip pizzeria can't be missed.

Mellow Mushroom's wide ranging menu has something everyone, including vegetarians. From salads to sandwiches, to calzones and pizza, you're sure to find something to satisfy your appetite. There's also a fully stocked bar with popular draft beers, in addition to a serviceable selection of wine and spirits.

Don't forget to save room for dessert!

We're taking a fieldtrip to St. Augustine, eyeing Asado Life as our destination for a relaxed and savory dinner.

We'll start with 8 seats, expanding to 10 if there's substantial interest.

The Nickel Tour

Asado Life takes grilling to a new level, with most of its menu devoted to appetizers, sides, and entrees coming off the grill. Its chefs use Argentinian grilling methods -- in addition to ember roasting and smoking -- to prepare tasty food with a slight smoky flavor.

Though the menu caters to meat eaters, Asado Life does have options for vegetarians, with a basic selection of salads, vegetable plates, and a preordered spaghetti squash dish that can't be missed (be sure to *preorder* by 10AM the day of the dinner). Cap off your grilled dinner with one of Asado Life's sweet treats, including Key Lime Pie, Mousse, and Citrus Olive Oil Cake.

Situated on the water, Asado Life has a marina-inspired interior with both a bar and dining room. The spacious outdoor patio area has plenty of seating, allowing you to observe the chef cook on the grill while enjoying weekend live music and other entertainment.

The restaurant is away from the hustle and bustle of St. Augustine, making travel and parking a breeze. Those interested in a post-dinner St. Augustine hangout will be happy to know the restaurant is about 10 minutes from the downtown area.

The Itinerary

Join us for an evening walk from Mellow Mushroom Avondale to Stinson Park next to the Ortega River Draw Bridge. Our popular walks typically attract 15+ group members. Afterwards, we'll regroup at Mellow Mushroom, Brick, Southern Grounds, or another nearby restaurant for a walk-in dinner or casual lite bite.

The Route

Follow St. Johns Avenue southwest to Herschel Street. Cross Big Fishwier Creek, making a quick left on to Woodmere Drive.

Follow Woodmere Drive south along the shoreline to San Juan Avenue. Then head east on San Juan about 300 meters to Stinson Park, stopping briefly for a rest or photo opportunity.

Retrace route back to Avondale.

Optional (+15 minutes): Cross Ortega Drawbridge before returning to Avondale.

The Shoppes of Avondale is one of Jacksonville's most idyllic and vital commercial centers. Replete with casual and fine dining, plus an ample number of quaint stores, Avondale is the perfect place to spend an enjoyable afternoon or evening.

Baker Point Park and Stinson Park both abut the St. John's River, anchoring the start of the Ortega Drawbridge. Adequately sized and well kept, each park offers visitors sweeping views of the St. John's River, Ortega, and downtown Jacksonville.
